Clients who have a history of psychosis or those who show signs of entering a depressive state during their first hypnotic session are strongly advised to abstain from engaging in  hypnotherapy. Many people lose time throughout the session, which is completely normal.

These nerve pathways can be altered by suggestion when the brain is in an alpha or theta brain wave state that lies on the borderline between waking and sleeping. The healing patterns dictated by hypnotherapy are established by achieving these states.
